Introduction
Excessive lipid in the blood, largely in the form of chylomicrons.
Etiology
- hyperlipoproteinemia type 1
- hyperlipoproteinemia type 5
- hyperlipoproteinemia type 2B
- non fasting state
Clinical manifestations
- serum appears turbid or milky
Interferences
- lipemia interferes with laboratory measurements based on transmittance of light through the specimen
