Function
- the striate cortex is the primary visual cortex
- the surrounding areas, Brodman's areas 18 (secondary visual cortex) & 19 are involved in subsequent steps of processing visual information
Structure
- the region of the occipital & visual cortex corresponding to Brodman's area.
- it is so named for the line of Gennari, grossly visible on its surface.
Afferents
- the striate cortex receives the nerve fibers of the optic radiation from the lateral geniculate body of the thalamus
