Introduction

Two laminae of white myelinated nerve fibers that course parallel to the surface of the cerebral cortex.

They are visible in myelin stained sections cut perpendicular to the surface as the stria of the internal pyramidal layer in cortical layer V (outer line) & the stria of the internal granular layer in cortical layer IV (inner line).

The line of Gennari in the striate (primary visual) cortex represented a prominent outer line ofBaillarger.
