Introduction
The physiologic loss of accomodation in the eyes with advancing age. It begins when the near point has receded beyond 22 cm (9 inches).
Pathology
- loss of deformability of the lens?
Clinical manifestations
- difficulty focusing on near objects
- onset is insidious
- generally begins in midlife (50's)
- disorder is progressive
- patients often require a change in corrective lenses every 2-3 years
Management
- corrective lenses
- pilocarpine ophthalmic 1,3% (Vuity) FDA-approved
