Introduction
Distinct subset of thymic epithelial neoplasms that show overt cellular anaplasia and aggressive clinical evolution.

Pathology
- usually lack encapsulation
- areas of hemorrhage & necrosis
Microscopic pathology
WHO classification[3] squamous cell carcinoma basaloid carcinoma mucoepidermoid carcinoma lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma sarcomatoid carcinoma (carcinosarcoma) clear cell carcinoma adenocarcinoma papillary adenocarcinoma carcinoma with t(15;19) translocation well differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma (carcinoid) typical carcinoid atypical carcinoid poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma small cell carcinoma, neuroendocrine type undifferentiated carcinoma combined thymic epithelial tumor
Clinical manifestations
- not associated with paraneoplastic syndromes
- generally present with symptoms of structural displacement
