Epidemiology
- may cause disease or asymptomatic infection in pigs
- sporadic infections in other mammalian species, including humans, after contact with pigs or pork products
- median interval between exposure & symptom onset is 2.2 days, shorter for patients with toxic-shock syndrome
Clinical manifestations

- sepsis
- meningitis, with or without
- streptococcal toxic-shock syndrome

Complications
- mortality 18%, 62% with toxic-shock syndrome
