Introduction

The most superior segment of the aorta in the thorax as it arches from its root at the aortic valve, superiorly over the left main bronchus & right pulmonary artery, posteriorly & inferiorly towards the abdomen. The arch gives rise to the brachiocephalic artery, the left common carotid artery & the left subclavian artery.
