• universal sulfuryl donor for sulfation events that take place in the Golgi
• activated sulfate donor used by sulfotransferase.
• formed by from ATP & sulfate in a 2 step reaction catalyzed by sulfurylase kinase 1
• adenosine 5' phosphosulfate is an intermediate
• PAPS is transported from cytosol to GOLGI by SLC35B2 & secondarily SLC35B3
