Function
- RNA-binding protein that binds to several small cytoplasmic RNA molecules known as Y RNAs
- may stabilize these Y RNAs from degradation
- in the free state, Ro binds to a variety of misfolded RNAs including misfolded 5S rRNAs, & is thought to act as some sort of quality control mechanism
- Y RNA appears to function as a repressor of Ro
- phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR
- found in a complex with PUF60 & Y5 RNA
- interacts with RIP11

Pathology
- sera from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) often contain autoantibodies that react with normal cellular SSA2 protein
