- postranscriptional editing of a CAA codon for Gln to a UAA codon for stop in APOB mRNA
- apolipoprotein B mRNA editing results in formation of apo B48, rather than apo B100
- catalytic subunit, APOBEC1, binds to the mRNA & deaminate its target cytosine to uracil
- protects the edited APOB mRNA from nonsense-mediated decay
