ornithine decarboxylase antizyme 1; ODC-Az (OAZ1, OAZ)
Jump to navigation
Jump to search
Function
- binds to, & destabilizes, ornithine decarboxylase which is then degraded
- also inhibits cellular uptake of polyamines by inactivating the polyamine uptake transporter
- SMAD1/OAZ1/PSMB4 complex mediates the degradation of the CREBBP/EP300 repressor SNIP1
- forms a ternary complex with PSMB4 & SMAD1 before PSMB4 is incorporated into the 20S proteasome
Structure
belongs to the ODC antizyme family
Notes
- a ribosomal frameshift occurs between the codons for Ser-68 & Asp-69
- an autoregulatory mechanism enables modulation of frameshifting according to the cellular concentration of polyamines
