- stimulates exocrine pancreatic secretion
- inhibits pentagastrin-stimulated secretion of acid, to induce exocrine pancreatic secretion & to affect intestinal motility
- in the gut, xenin interacts with the neurotensin receptor

- seems to be confined to specific endocrine cells
