Function
- phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol, 1st committed step in production of inositol-1,4,5,-trisphosphate
- may regulate Golgi disintegration/reorganization during mitosis
- stimulates synthesis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2) the Golgi
Compartment
- cytoplasm
- outer mitochondrial membrane
- rough endoplasmic reticulum
- recruited to the Golgi by the small GTPase ARF.
Expression
- widely expressed
- highest levels in heart, skeletal muscle, pancreas, testis & ovary
- weakly expressed in liver
Notes
- inhibited by wortmannin
