Function

• phosphorylates phosphatidylinositol, 1st committed step in production of inositol-1,4,5,-trisphosphate
• may regulate Golgi disintegration/reorganization during mitosis
• stimulates synthesis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2) the Golgi

Compartment

• cytoplasm
• outer mitochondrial membrane
• rough endoplasmic reticulum
• recruited to the Golgi by the small GTPase ARF.

Expression

• widely expressed
• highest levels in heart, skeletal muscle, pancreas, testis & ovary
• weakly expressed in liver
