MHC class 2 transactivator C2TA (CIITA, MHC2TA)
Jump to navigation
Jump to search
Function
- essential for transcriptional activity of the HLA class 2 promoter; activation is via the proximal promoter
- forms transcriptional complex with RFX
- no DNA binding of in vitro translated CIITA
- may act in coactivator-like fashion through protein-protein interactions by contacting factors binding to the proximal MHC class 2 promoter, to elements of the transcription machinery, or both
- may activate HLA class 2 transcription by modifying proteins that bind to the MHC class 2 promoter
- interacts with ZXDA & ZXDC
Structure
- contains 4 LRR repeats (leucine-rich repeats)
- contains 1 NACHT domain
Compartment
Pathology
- defects in CIITA are a cause of bare lymphocyte syndrome-2
