Function

• escorts unspliced or incompletely spliced viral pre-mRNAs (late transcripts) containing Rev responsive element (RRE) out of the nucleus of infected cells
  • interaction with AGFG1 for nuclear export
• Rev itself is translated from a fully spliced mRNA that readily exits the nucleus
• contains both nuclear import & nuclear export signals resulting in continuous shuttling between the nucleus & cytoplasm
• nuclear localization signal binds to KPNB1
  • KPNB1 bind to GDP-bound form of Ran protein
  • converison of Ran-GDP to Ran-GDP dissociated Rev from KPNB1
• Rev bound to RRE inhibited from return to nucleus Nucleus, nucleolus, cytoplasm
