• specifically binds heat shock promoter elements (HSE)
• forms trimers even in the absence of stress
• isoform HSF4A represses transcription, while isoform HSF4B activates transcription
• phosphorylated on Ser & Thr residues by MAPK1, MAPK2 & MAPK8
• interacts with DUSP26, MAPK1, MAPK2 & MAP kinase p38
