Function
- associates with microtubules
- may play a role in the microtubule-dependent transport of the GABA-B receptor
- may play a role in JAK1 signaling & regulate microtubule cytoskeleton rearrangements
- forms a complex with GABBR1 & KIF5B/kinesin- 1
- interacts with JAK1 & TYK2
- phosphorylated
Structure
- homodimer
- belongs to the JAKMIP family
Compartment
- cytoplasm, peripheral membrane
- colocalizes with the microtubule network
- localizes to the cell body & neurites of hippocampal neurons where it accumulates in granules
- localizes to the tail & to a lower extent to the head of sperm cells
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=6
Expression
- predominantly expressed in neural tissues & lymphoid cells (at protein level)
- isoforms 2, 3 & 4 are specifically expressed in brain & retina while isoform 1 & isoform 5 are also detected in liver, lung & skelelal muscle
- also detected in testis & to a lower extent spleen & intestine
Notes
- originally thought to bind single-stranded RNA molecules & regulate GABA-B receptor expression
