Function
- RNA binding protein
- regulates expression of target mRNAs at translation level
- role in proliferation & maintenance of stem cells in CNS
- regulates normal hematopoiesis[3]
- phosphorylated
Structure
- contains 2 RRM domains (RNA recognition motif)
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=3
Expression
- ubiquitous, expressed at low levels
- up-regulated in astrocytes after brain injury
Pathology
- chromosomal translocations involving MSI2, t(7;17)(p15;q23) with HOXA9 & t(7;17)(q32-34;q23) may contribute to disease progression in chronic myeloid leukemia
- overexpressed in myeloid leukemia stem cells[3]
- expression levels in human myeloid leukemia directly correlate with decreased survival in patients[3]
