Function
- sulfatase, has arylsulfatase activity
- highly specific endoglucosamine-6-sulfatase activity
- can remove sulfate from C-6 position of glucosamine within specific subregions of intact heparin
- diminishes heparan sulfate proteoglycans sulfation
- inhibits signaling by heparin-dependent growth factors
- diminishes proliferation, & facilitates apoptosis in response to exogenous stimulation
- binds 1 Ca+2 per subunit
Kintetic parameters:
- Optimum pH is 7.0-8.0
Structure
belongs to the sulfatase family
Compartment
endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi, cell surface
Expression
- expressed at highest levels in testis, stomach, skeletal muscle, lung, kidney, pancreas, small intestine & colon
- detected in normal ovarian surface epithelial cells
Pathology
- down-regulation in ovarian cancer
- down-regulation cell lines derived froms ovarian carcinoma, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, renal cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma
