endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to GOLGI & intra-GOLGI transport
regulates vesicular transport between ER& successive Golgi compartments
Rab-1B binds GTP & GDP & possesses intrinsic GTPase activity (putative)
prenylated; by GGTase II, only after interaction of the substrate with Rab escort protein 1 (REP1)
interacts with MICAL1, MICAL2 & MICAL3
interacts with GDI1; interaction requires GDP-bound state
interacts with CHM/REP1; interaction requires GDP-bound form & is necessary for prenylation by GGTase II

membrane; lipid-anchor; cytoplasmic side
cytoplasm
targeted by REP1 to membranes of specific subcellular compartments including endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi, & intermediate vesicles between these two compartments
in the GDP-form, colocalizes with GDI in the cytoplasm (putative)
