catalase (CAT)

Function

• occurs in almost all aerobically respiring organisms
• protects cells from the toxic effects of H2O2
• promotes growth of cells including T-cells, B-cells, myeloid leukemia cells, melanoma cells, mastocytoma cells & normal & transformed fibroblast cells

2 H2O2 <--> O2 + 2 H2O

• NADP

• the N-terminus is blocked
• belongs to the catalase family
