Function
- occurs in almost all aerobically respiring organisms
- protects cells from the toxic effects of H2O2
- promotes growth of cells including T-cells, B-cells, myeloid leukemia cells, melanoma cells, mastocytoma cells & normal & transformed fibroblast cells
2 H2O2 <--> O2 + 2 H2O

- homotetramer
- the N-terminus is blocked
- belongs to the catalase family

- defects in CAT are the cause of acatalasemia
