Introduction
Tradenames: Konyne 80, Proplex T.
Indications
- to control bleeding in patients with factor IX deficiency (hemophilia B or Christmas disease)
- prevention of control of bleeding in hemophilia A patients with inhibitors to factor VIII
Contraindications
- liver disease with signs of intravascular coagulation or fibrinolysis
- not for use in patients with factor VII deficiency
Caution:
- use with caution in patients with liver dysfunction
- risk of viral transmission
Dosage
Single dose vials with various units.
Adverse effects
- not common (1-10%)
- uncommon (< 1%)
- disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), thrombosis following high doses, somnolence, urticaria, tightness in chest & neck
Drug interactions
- increased incidence of thrombosis with aminocaproic acid
