Function
- ligand of integrin alpha-8/beta-1 in kidney development
- regulates with integrin alpha-8/beta-1 the expression of GDNF which is essential for kidney development
- may also play a role in the development & function of various tissues, regulating cell adhesion, spreading & survival through the binding of several integrins
Structure
- homodimer & homotrimer (putative)
- MAM domain is required for localization at the cell surface (putative)
- belongs to the nephronectin family
- contains 5 EGF-like domains
- contains 1 MAM domain
Compartment
- secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix (putative)
- trapped on the cell surface or in the extracellular matrix (putative)
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- expressed in kidney & lung > brain, pregnant uterus, placenta, thyroid gland & blood vessel
- expressed in fetal kidney, cochlea, eye, heart & lung
