• this protein is the precursor of amyloid protein A, which is formed by the removal of approximately 24 residues from the C-terminal end

Pathology

• reactive, secondary amyloidosis is characterized by the extracellular accumulation in various tissues of the SAA2 protein

Polymorphism

• at least 2 different SAA2 alleles have been described: SAA2.1 (SAA2alpha) & SAA2.2 (SAA2beta)
