Function
- may facilitate ATP-independent bidirectional transbilayer migration of phospholipids upon binding Ca+2, resulting in a loss of phospholipid asymmetry in the plasma membrane
- role in the initiation of fibrin clot formation
- role in activation of mast cells
- role in recognition of apoptotic & injured cells by the reticuloendothelial system
- interacts with PDCD6
Structure
- belongs to the phospholipid scramblase family
Compartment
- membrane; single-pass type 2 membrane protein (putative)
Expression
- expressed in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, spleen, thymus, prostate, testis, uterus, small intestine & colon
- not expressed in peripheral blood lymphocytes
