XP E-correcting protein

Function

binds specifically to UV-irradiated DNA^[1]
also recognizes DNA damage induced by nitrogen mustard, MNNG, 4NQO, 8-methoxypsoralen, cis & trans DDP & apurinic DNA^[2]
it is the only XP-correcting protein that is not absolutely required for DNA excision repair in vitro
may also serve another facilitatory role in nucleotide excision repair
