Function
- binds specifically to UV-irradiated DNA[1]
- also recognizes DNA damage induced by nitrogen mustard, MNNG, 4NQO, 8-methoxypsoralen, cis & trans DDP & apurinic DNA[2]
- it is the only XP-correcting protein that is not absolutely required for DNA excision repair in vitro
- may also serve another facilitatory role in nucleotide excision repair
