• required for proper homologous chromosome pairing & efficient cross-over & intragenic recombination during meiosis (putative)
• stimulates both DMC1- & RAD51-mediated homologous strand assimilation, which is required for the resolution of meiotic double-strand breaks
• heterodimer with PSMC3IP/HOP2
• MND1-PSMC3IP interacts with DMC1 & RAD51 & binds preferentially to dsDNA
