Introduction

The terms glutamate receptor beta & gamma probably refer to rodent genes. Human glutamate receptor subunits GRIK1, GRIK2 & GRIK3 form a functional kainate receptor with GRIK4 & GRIK5 as do (presumptive rodent) subunits beta & gamma. The assignments of GRIK1, GRIK2 & GRIK3 as glutamate receptor beta subtypes & GRIK4 & GRIK5 as glutamate receptor gamma subtypes was arbitrary.
