Function
- second messenger, cAMP
- causes opening of cyclic nucleotide-gated cation channels & depolarization of olfactory sensory neurons
- CNGA4 is the modulatory subunit of channel that plays a role in the transduction of odorant signals & subsequent adaptation
- by accelerating Ca+2-mediated negative feedback in olfactory signaling, it allows rapid adaptation to odor stimulation & extends its range of odor detection (putative)
- component of CNGA2/CNGA4/CNGB1b complex
Structure
- belongs to the cyclic nucleotide-gated cation channel (TC 1.A.1.5) family
- contains 1 cyclic nucleotide-binding domain
Compartment
membrane (putative)
