Function
- binds 2 divalent metal cations per subunit
- site 1 may preferentially bind Zn+2
- site 2 has a preference for Mg+2 &/or Mn+2 (putative)
- component of oligomer of two alpha' subunits (PDE6C) that are associated with 3 smaller proteins of 11, 13, & 15 kDa
Structure
- belongs to the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase family
- contains 2 GAF domains
Compartment
- cell membrane; lipid-anchor; cytoplasmic side (putative)
Pathology
- defects in PDE6C are the cause of cone dystrophy type 4
