Translocation involving NPM & MLF1 associated with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS with progression to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The chromsomal translocation results from an in-frame fusion between the 5' coding region of the nucleophosmin gene on chromosome 5 & the MLF1 gene on chromosome 3
