• NPM expression is cell cycle regulated & reaches peak levels before entry into S phase & decline to baseline before onset of G2 phase

Pathology

• chromosomal translocation t3q25:5q34 leads to the NPM-MLF1 fusion protein, responsible for myelodysplastic syndrome with progression to acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
