Branches
- internal auditory artery or labyrinthine artery (occasionally)
Anastomoses
posterior inferior cerebellar artery
Distribution
- cerebellar cortex & underlying white matter of inferior surface of cerebellum anteriorly
- parts of central cerebellar nuclei
- choroid plexus in cerebellopontine angle
Pathology
- occlusion may cause peripheral & central symptoms
- central vertigo
- occlusion of the internal auditory artery may cause isolated vertigo[4]
- sudden unilateral hearing loss
- ipsilateral facial weakness or anesthesia
- lateral gaze palsy
- Horner syndrom
- nystagmus
- cerebellar dysmetria
- contralateral ansesthesia
