Introduction
The risk of perioperative myocardial infarction or cardiac death is increased by:
- heart failure, decompensated
- myocardial infarction within the last 6 months
- more than 5 ventricular premature contractions (PVC, VPC)/minute
- frequent atrial premature contractures or more complex atrial arrhythmias
- age > 70 years
- illness requiring emergency procedure(s)
- aortic stenosis, hemodynamically significant
- poor general medical condition
Independent risk factors for perioperative cardiac morbidity include:
- angina
- history of heart failure
The cardiac risk index (CRI) is a numerical estimate of perioperative cardiac risk using the Goldman criteria.
