Introduction

Clinical manfestations:

• clinical manifestations that are similar to those of schizophrenia but with a shorter duration of symptoms (< 6 months)
  • psychotic symptoms 1-6 months
  • negative symptoms
    • flat affect, alogia, anhedonia
  • cognitive impairment
    • memory impairment, inattention, impaired concentration
  • mood symptoms (not required)
    • depression & anxiety may be noted
  • functional impairment
    • deterioration of social, occupational & academic functioning

Differential diagnosis

• mood disorder
• substance abuse
