aortic valve heart sound (A2)

Introduction

Aortic component of 2nd heart sound (S2), or A2, reflecting closure of the aortic valve which normally precedes P2 (closure of pulmonic valve).

Loud A2: systemic hypertension

Soft A2: aortic stenosis, heavily calcified valve
