Clinical manifestations

  • spoken words generally muffled & indistinctly heard in the air-filled lungs
  • with pulmonary consolidation, they are heard distinctly & sound close to the ear

Procedure

  • with your stethoscope, listen over symmetrical areas over the chest wall
  • ask the patient to say 'ninety-nine'.
