Etiology

• seen in association with sarcoidosis (pathognomonic)

Epidemiology

• female/male ratio: 2/1
• more common in black than whites

Pathology

• non-caseating granulmonas with minimal lymphocytic infiltration

Clinical manifestations

• granulomatous inflammation of skin around the nares
• indurated blue to purple, swollen shiny lesions on nose, cheeks, lips, ears, fingers, & knees
• painless

Complications

• 75% have pulmomary sarcoidosis

Management

• high doses of corticosteroids are effective but are associated with steroid-related toxicity
• infliximab may be effective
