Ingestion of ergot drugs or rye or wheat infected with the fungus Claviceps purpurea.

Clinical manifestations

• colic
• diarrhea
• cramp of the extremities
• paresthesias
• pruritus
• convulsions
• headache
• drowsiness
• nausea/vomiting
• gangrene

  • digits
