Etiology
- part of the clinical spectrum of polymyalgia rheumatica
- associated with
Epidemiology
- elderly patients, uncommon
Genetics
association with HLA-B27
Clinical manifestations
- pain, swelling, stiffness & numbness in the hands
- inflammatory synovitis of the wrists & palmar tendon sheaths
- both flexor & extensor tendons affected
- can affect both hands & feet
- stiffness of the shoulders
- symptoms worse upon awakening, except for numbness
- numbness occurs more often at night
- no evidence of Raynaud's phenomenon
Management
- NSAIDs
- glucocorticoids, treat as polymyalgia rheumatica
