Introduction
Inflammation of a panniculus, frequently presenting as subcutaneous nodules, often a sign of systemic disease.
Etiology
Forms of panniculitis include:
- erythema nodosum
- erythema induratum
- lupus profundus
- Weber-Christian disease
- alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency
- fat necrosis secondary to pancreatic disease
- factitial
Clinical manifestations
- in all but erythema nodosum, lesions may break down & ulcerate or heal with a scar
