Etiology
- contiguous infection
- vertebrae
- kidneys
- complication of intra-abdominal infection
- retroperitoneal colon (inflammatory bowel disease)
- hematogenous spread
Clinical manifestations
- may be signs of systemic infection
- manifestations related to primary site of infection
- flank pain
- referred pain to the groin or the thigh
- paresthesia of thigh
- limitation of hip extension
