Introduction
Avoids spread of infection via large droplets > 5 um that travel < 3 feet on air currents.
Examples:
- Neisseria meningitidis (1st 24 hours of therapy)[1]
- Haemophilus influenzae
- multidrug-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Bordetella pertussis
- adenovirus*
- rubella
- mumps
- influenza

- face mask or surgical mask worn within 3 feet of patient
