ectropion

Introduction

A rolling outward of margin of eyelid.

Etiology

• weakness muscles of the lower lid
  • orbicularis oculi
  • inferior tarsal muscle

Pathology

• age-related degeneration of periocular tissues

Clinical manifestations

• rolling outward of margin of eyelid
• often accompanied by dry eyes
• watery eyes may occur

Management

• artificial tears
• lubricating ointment
• antibiotic (ophthalmic) if indicated
• consult to ophthalmology for surgery
