Introduction

Padded protective shields that cover the proximal femur & shunt the energy of impact away from the greater trochanter. These are worn in specially designed undergarments.

Clinical significance

Incidence of hip fractures reduced by hip protectors[2], {although NOT reaching statitical significance}.

  • 4.6% in group with 67% of patients wearing hip protectors
  • 8.1% in group with 15% of patients wearing hip protectors

Little benefit[4][5]
