Introduction

Study characteristics:

• large, community-based observational study
• compared never users of estrogen vs current users of estrogen

Results:

• estrogen protected against
  • hip fracture (RR 0.60)
  • wrist fracture (RR 0.39)
  • all non-spinal fractures (RR 0.66)
• only users of estrogen who began within 5 years of menopause were found to benefit
