Indications
- surgical excision of hemorrhoid(s)
Procedure
- rubber band ligation better than bipolar electrocoagulation
- band ligation systems available that can be applied using standard esophageal variceal banding devices
Complications
- severe pain, bleeding, & rarely serious infection associated with rubber band ligation
- not a minor procedure in frail elderly nursing home residents[3]
- worsening fecal incontinence
- cardiovascular or pulmonary problems within 30 days[3]
- death within 1 year[3]
