left ventricular outflow tract

Introduction

The path by which blood escapes from the left ventricle during myocardial contraction (systole). The interventricular septum in conjunction with the aortic valve are major determinants. The left ventricular outflow tract is obstructed in:

• hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• aortic valvular stenosis
