Etiology

• excess phosphate (sodium biphosphate), especially bowel preparation
• risk factors
  • elderly
  • renal disease
  • hypovolemia
  • pharmaceutical agents that affect renal perfusion or function
    • diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, NSAIDs

Complications

• acute renal failure
