Introduction

An extensive sac like cavity that lies posteror to the stomach, adjacent structures & the lesser omentum .

The bursa has 2 recess:

Communication: with the greater peritoneal sac through the omental foramen.

Function

Permits free movement of the stomach on the structures posterior & inferior to it, due to the smooth sliding of the anterior & posterior walls.
